Humans

The human genus encompasses several species, most now extinct. Although likely the birthplace of most humans, Asiri Asa's population is mostly made up of Laku Prljati, commonly known as "dead-os", the species that evolved on Marcwith. All humans are omnivorous and either diurnal or metaturnal. They are one of the major families of Io and arguably the widest spread culturally and genetically.

Extinct Human Populations

Many species variants of human existed in Asiri Asa that have only just disappeared from the world, generally by out-breeding. Often called 'basin humans' or 'basin species', their physical differences are still part of the reason Asiri Asa is so culturally diverse. Basin humans all share several physical traits that are now very rare or not present in the modern human population. Although still considered vuilenzand, these species had a range of tone uncommon in other human populations. Special adaptations like increased lung capacity and low-light vision have disappeared almost entirely. Pointed ears, seen also in some uembian populations, is another trait recessive to the rounded ears of Marcwith's human population. Between the basin species, however, there is still more difference.

Eastern basin humans had dark pigmentation in their skin and hair and tended to be taller than extant humans. Their eye colors were on a yellow-black color spectrum that has not been seen in humans in the past two centuries. Aside from aesthetics, they had the ability to digest certain plants that are poisonous to other humans. They were one of the few metaturnal human species, having eyes that can adapt to both low-level and bright day levels of illumination. They had a slightly longer lifespan than most other humans, perhaps due to a slower metabolism.

Western basin humans were the most similar to the modern human population with slightly larger, denser bones structures. They also had a larger lung capacity than other human species. Skeletal structure of this population suggests that meat was a much higher percentage of their diet compared to other humans.

Northern basin humans were able to speak dichotically with ease and had far better hearing than other humans. They had a 'monochromatic' appearance with white/grey skin tones, hair, and eyes. This species was able to survive with much less water than other human populations. Due to their unique look, they still figure into cultural stories.

Southern humans were the most visually striking. They had very saturated coloration in their skin and hair. They were the only human population known to have consistently produced humans with green eyes prior to the introduction of other human species. They reportedly had high dexterity compared to other humans and better developed muscles.

Laku Prljati, "Dead-O's"

Though the origin of the term ‘dead-o’s’ is now lost it likely had something to do with the much shorter lifespans humans had than the species they shared Vinumera with. Nonetheless, Dead-O’s are humans, possibly transplants from the First Voyage.

Despite a shorter lifespan, Laku Prljati excelled in breeding. It is estimated that in the near future humans will be the only remaining family aside from random incidents of coalescence. They have a range of height, skin tone, hair color, and eye color, but are otherwise nearly identical in internal and external conditions. Historically they live shorter lifespans than the basin humans but have far more success in achieving pregnancy as well as carrying to term. While once looked down on as a sort of 'race of willing prostitutes' their ability and eagerness to procreate made them the largest population of 'Crede in the world.
