Possession is a term referring to the occurrence of an entity inhabiting a host, taking partial to full control of that host. Except by spirits and ghosts, possession must be accepted, meaning that the host must be living and sentient. Like a parasite, it is beneficial to keep the host alive, but often the host has no control. Possession can happen through summoning or it can happen seemingly at random. Ghosts, spirits, and entities are capable of possession. Disgraces are only capable of it when they are stripped of physical form. Anyone can become possessed.

Methods of Possession
Possession can be partial, long-term, short-term, or full. A short-term partial possession is by far the most common. More commonly practiced by spirits and ghosts, it is relatively easy to break such a connection. It is unknown how spirits and ghosts are capable of possession without invitation. Usually through trickery or perhaps through ritual, an entity or demon can be granted permission to possess someone.
Possession is often summarized by the classic 'boat' example, as it relates to all forms of possession by any entity; the Sea (your inner self, your soul), the Boat (your body), the Crew (the thing that seeks possession), the Captain (your brain). The crew lives on the boat, lives off the sea, and follows the Captain. The crew could approach influence the Captain’s choices, or they could attempt to overthrow the Captain, but they could sink into the sea if they don’t know how to steer the ship.
Summoning
Generally speaking, someone summons to either accomplish a goal they otherwise couldn’t or to get someone else possessed by use of a summoning contract. The latter is common among those who wish the power of a disgrace without facing any consequence for themself. Summon spells can be simple or complicated, and can be altered by a powerful magic-user. Only demons and entities can be summoned in this way, although the method is far more proven with demons. There is no way to break a contract once summoned.
Purposes of Possession
True full possession is uncommon. Most consider that 'Crede's natural barriers, particularly those of humans, prevent entities from accomplishing such. Thus possession, uncommon as it is, is usually a partial event. There are only a few theories as to why any entity would involve itself in this behavior purposely.
Rehoming/Clearing Spaces
Sometimes, possession is used as a purposeful method of removing an entity from another person or place. Resistant mediums can allow themselves to be possessed, then work to eventually drive (or trick) an entity into a benign vessel.
Supernatural Interest
Entities seem to find full possession easier than disgraces, spirits, or ghosts, and the relationship is generally quite different. Entity and host are symbiotic, with both host and entity able to draw energy from one another, creating a strong bond some find appealing. The retention of energy taken from human hosts may cause an entity to follow that family’s bloodline for generations. In some cultures this is considered an honor. Many speculate as to why this bond would be formed, but most can be summarized by three main points:
Physical Action; they desire for some reason to find a home in a physical body.
Emotional Action; they desire a particular person. Some entities seem to develop obsessions with people that seem emotionally driven. Theoretical Action; they are playing with people, simply experimenting on how they can interact and what their levels of interaction are limited to.
Most case studies would allow for any of the three theories to be argued. In some circles, it is considered quite important to have a spirit/entity attach to a child (some families even have entities that follow generations). In this case, it would be a great loss and embarrassment to a family when an entity loses interest in a host or ‘cheats’ – possesses multiple hosts at once. Hipflasks, or any child who faces possession at an early age, grow up to feel comforted by their entities rather than unsettled.

Healing Possession
In most cultures possession is not desired, especially in Asiri Asa. Over the years, several methods of healing, preventing, or stalling a full possession have been developed.

Hipflasks
Some Mediums that spend their entire lives with teams that extract spirits by forcing possession (these people are sometimes called ‘hipflasks’) seem to attract entities at an early age.

Consuming
Less common than possession but a far more devastating a behavior is Consuming. Disgraces seem to be the only being capable of this behavior, although old demons are often similar in practice to Entities, making the distinction unclear. Consuming entails a demon being forcibly, purposely placed into a host in a process called 'burying'. This is normally done to prolong a natural life or accidentally accomplished during an intended possession. Once the demon is 'buried' within the host, it will attempt a slow and involved process that eats its host from the inside out, destroying the physical body in an attempt to free itself. While it remains contained in the body the host will not appear to weaken or age from natural causes, but Consuming behavior always results in death. It can be controlled, but not cured, by specific medications.
